In the lead up to the school board elections in September 2025, MILG are creating a campaign to:
Encourage more Māori to put themselves forward for nomination
Encourage more Māori to engage in the election process
Education governance has been identified as a key lever to influencing the education experiences of ākonga Māori and their whānau. Their time at primary and secondary school have a huge impact on the pathways they choose after school. These ultimately influence their confidence to enter the workforce, capacity to contribute to their communities, ability to earn and more and therefore, in every sense of the word — a whakapapa decision.
